Salary wise, how much of a boost does the CFA
designation earn you? Total Income? I know its a
broad question.
Why does it matter? Each person has his own motives for pursuing CFA designation. I doubt I will get a salary boost but it doesn’t matter to me.

I would be pissed if I did not get a rather large salary bump. At least 25% for all the sweat and blood put forth.

Don’t tell me you don’t sacrifice farm animals when you study? How else are you going to appease the gods of grading?

Even in cities that are backwaters in terms of finance Charterholders do well. I think the median compensation for a charterholder in Vancouver was around 180-190k per annum back in 2006, and that was in USD when the exchange was around .83 usd/cad.
with that amount of compensation you can have a pretty nice lifestyle, not to mention the 15 or so hedgefund guys that responded to salary survey had a median comp of 800k a year.
though since those figures are median, take them with a grain of salt, there are always outliers who will skew the results upwards, especially given a relatively small sample population

Arithmetic average is more affected by outliers than the median. Median is the appropriate measure of central tendency when outliers exist, so do not take the median with a grain of salt.

Howard Marks, Bill Miller, and Bill Gross are
charterholders so that probably skews the average
a touch. How about the median? I wonder what the
median salary is for AF posters.
Bill Miller has cost me big time- he should pay me part of his salary :(
