Hello
Could I also add another question? I am a lecturer in a university. Am I right in thinking that I could ask the Dean of my faculty to be my supervisor? Many thanks.

You first need to fill out an application for
membership then after that you will need a two
sponsors 1) your supervisor and 2) CFA
Charterholder in the local society you are
joining. After they vouch for you then cfai
will
review application approve or deny. If
approved
it will then go to the local society to approve
or
deny. If approved you will be a member either
affiliate or regular.

Thanks. How do they vouch for me? After I join
the local society (NYSSA), do I specifically ask
someone in the society to vouch for me? And how
do they do that? Same for my supervisor, is there
an form I need to give to my supervisor to sign?
Does my supervisor has to write something or just
sign? Thanks.
I believe that the CFAI reccommends that you contact the local society membership chair. I worked with a charterholder so I just asked him to be my sponsor. There is not a form. They will get an email and have to set up a username and password on the CFAI website similar to what candidates and memers have. Then fill out a few questions and that is it.

I think that would work…

Thanks. So if I know another CFA Charterholder, I could just ask him (not necessarily my colleague correct?) and my supervisor to be my sponsors? Does that mean I could skip the NYSSA (no need to pay their annual fees)? NYSSA membership chair doesn’t know me personally, so I don’t know how to ask him to be my sponsor.
Once decided the sponsors, do I enter their email addresses on the CFA membership application form online and that’s how they will get the email from CFAI to fill out the few questions?
Sorry for the dumb questions and thanks for your help.

No I am pretty sure you cannot dodge that bullet.

Thanks. What kind of questions do they ask the sponsors? Do you know? Related to work experience or personal characteristics in general?

I do not know any CFA Regular Member to be my sponsor. Is asking the local society membership chair to be my sponsor difficult ? What do I need to send him ??

I’ve found the original email:
Thank you for applying to CFA Institute and a member society. To complete your application, you must have two sponsors: one regular member of CFA Institute and your supervisor. Either the CFA Institute regular member or the supervisor must be a member of the society you selected. If you cannot meet the supervisor requirement, you may substitute another regular member of CFA Institute. View full sponsor requirements.
Forward this e-mail to each of your sponsors with the following instructions:
Sign into the CFA Institute sponsor page using your CFA Login. If you do not have a username/password you must create one then return to this email and click the sponsor page link again. If the link does not work, copy and paste the following into your browser: http://www.cfainstitute.org/finsecustom ... toView&....
Select either β€œSupervisor” or β€œOther” to identify your relationship to the applicant.
Identify the applicant whom you are sponsoring by entering the following e-mail address:
caroline.hedges@avivainvestors.com
Complete the four sponsorship questions.
If you have questions, please contact us.
