Understand you are long a commodity future contract and a government bond equal to that value.
What is the purpose?!

I know some commodities funds invest Notional Value x maintenance margin in commodities and place the rest in TIPS for inflation protection.

Value of Commodities are not certain.They varies time by time due to fluctuations in the share market,however they are much beneficial for high and long term investments.You should consult Commodity and equity tips providers or some experienced individual for better understanding.

Investing in Commodity comes with a risk rate, but the rate is minor as compared to equity investments. The commodity trading tips can be helpful, and they also include bullion tips etc. A lot of researchers have recommended this.
